One
thing that is consistently appalling about 19th Century newspapers is
the blatant racism. In California, this took root most often in negative
stereotyping of Chinese immigrants and Native Americans. Although it's
hard to read such narrow-minded and nauseating sentiments, I think it's
important to get a perspective on how people really felt at the time.
These excerpts are, to be certain, not to be found in history books!
