It
seems that my rather... er... irreverent (or is that irrelevent?) and
uniquely morbid sense of humor is not appreciated by some people. Well,
it's probably not appreciated by most people, but I don't expect
"normal" people to be perusing my website anyway. Of course,
I'm hardly unaccustomed to hate mail, but it seems that this particular
feature - and in particular the paragraph you just read - have incited
more disdain, disgust, and all-around dismay than any other I have had
the misfortune of devising. Here's a few of the comments I've received.
I figure that by featuring them here I'll save those of you who feel
the same way the time and effort of writing me yourself, and the rest
of us can shake our heads and wonder why everyone has to take tragedy
so damned seriously...

"Wow,
you must be so proud of yourself for snapping some shots of cabin
28. If you were so insanely interested in what happened at that
cabin, why didn't you just ask someone about it? Instead of sneaking
around the cabin shooting pictures, like a gutless wonder. Damn
that redneck for having respect for the dead, what the fuck was
he thinking hey?
"Of course people are fascinated with the brutality other
human beings are capable of inflicting, and yes some people would
pay to go and stay in a haunted house, whether it truly was haunted
or not, because their they aren't held back by the same moral
code that defines most of our behavior.
"If you want to be haunted why don't you grow some balls
and go talk to the people who are really haunted by these murders,
the survivors. Why don't you preach your free speech and haunted
house bull shit to them. I am sure they would love your capitalistic
attitude about the loss of their loved ones. Maybe you could even
get one of them to sell tickets at the gate.
"As far as ripping on the locals around Keddie and Quincy,
get a fucking clue. The whole reason people are charmed and enchanted
by the two small towns is because they don't have a starbucks
on every corner, or fast food joints littering the main drag.
Stay in the city pansy before you get what karma has coming to
you."

"I
would like to start by saying the person or persons who wrote
these articles are miserable excuses for human beings! you lack
in respect for the Sharp family, and have no business writing
this article you knew nothing of Keddie or Quincy before this
so what gives you the right to make the comments of redneck and
crappy little burger joint. What happened to the Sharp family
was tragic, disgusting and yes still unsolved, but what makes
up your sick and morbid mind to be so obsessed? as far as you
saying the house should be turned into a theme park! how disgusting
are you? and for that matter why would this community want to
attract sicko's like you? and yes I am part of this community
always have been and always will be. Just a quick question if
something of this magnitude happened to your family would you
want someone like you writing terrible articles as you have done???
maybe you don't need to answer that, if you have such disrespect
for this family I can only imagine how you treat your own!!! I
can imagine this family would like to move on and solve what has
happened and yes getting the story out there can help, but that
is not what you have done, can you even look at yourself in the
mirror?

"I don't think you realize the lives
that were taken and what the families went through I just take
it as if your website is trying to make it into a show it really
happened and people lost there lives and families where torn apart.
I hope you know that if this were your family you wouldn't care
for this either."

"...
I grew up there about 10 minutes from there in Paxton. I grew
up with the sons of the man who owns it. And personally what happened
there is MORBID and disgusting and I think people like you shouldnt
be allowed on PRIVATE property to Display it and explore for your
own sick reasons."
When
I replied, rather sensibly, "You're right what happened on
there is MORBID and DISGUSTING. Hence, the public's extreme fascination
with it. And people like you have to learn that it isn't sick
to be interested in tragedy. It's healthy."
She
replied again:
"How
is it healthy when you want to know sick things that happened
to REAL people.... Those people, that FAMILY were murdered......
and people exploit that... Thats sick..."
At
which point I threw in the blood-soaked towel:
"You
say tomato, I say tragedy is fascinating. Viva la difference."

i just want to say that i was very affended
by the person who wrote the keddie article. i have lived in Quincy,
CA for 16 years and the keddie murders was a tragety. in your
article you stated why not make it into a tour place and charge
an admission. FIRST OFF the murders was a tragety not out for
someones amusement. you have no right to make comments like that.
im glad the REDNECKY GUY made you leave you should be there in
the first place, it was none of your business to be there taking
pictures. IF you ever decide to come back here to amuse yourself
with others pain you better do it respectfully. you say that the
S.F chronicle annoys you by saying that they are going to tear
it down, well who do you think you are to make that kind of responce
that it could be a tourist enticement. you are the most disapointing
writer i have after seen. TRY TO LEARN A LITTLE RESPECT NEXT TIME

Alright,
I want you to know something very important. The murders that
took place at the Keddie Resort have impacted the family in ways
you could never imagine. There is still family who lived through
this terrible tragedy. The Sharp family has been trying desperately
to somehow make this horror end. Sites such as yours do not help.
They flaunt this story around as though it is the best thing that
ever happened. You want ghosts? You want to have a haunted house?
Why don't you have your family murdered, and then see how fun
that is? It is not fun, it is not something to be taken lightly.
I have been to the Keddie Resort. Why? Because my bestfriend's
mother is Sheila Sharp, the teenager who found her mother, brother,
and friend murdered. The sister of Tina Sharp who was abducted
and later murdered. We have been trying to let the world know
of this incident, but not the way you have let them know. We want
justice done, not an amusement park about ghosts. How sick are
you? To make a mockery of these people? To say "Looking inside
the back window... If you use your imagination, it almost looks
like blood on the door, doesn't it? Creepy..." Yeah maybe
it is creepy, but families have lived there since. There is no
blood, no evidence left of the murder. Nothing left but your sick
website.
You should be ashamed of your treachery.

To Whom It
May Concern:
On behalf
of the Sharp family, I would like to formally let you know that
they do not appreciate the portion of your site regarding the
Keddie murders. Behind all your talk of ghosts and the creation
of some eerie purported experiences, there is a family that lost
several members of their family that night. For the record, the
house is not haunted. And for anyone wishing to go inside, I am
sure I don't need to remind you that it is private property. I
can tell you that I went inside recently, by permission, and there
is virtually nothing to see.
I can appreciate
your right to freedom of speech, but I would ask that you demonstrate
some responsibility and maturity in your pursuit. And as far as
the SF Chronicle article you have up on the site, so much of it
is inaccurate that it is offensive. Given the fact that the Sharps
are otherwise private figures, and given the mistruths printed,
it borders on defamation. I would respectfully request that you
remove the Keddie portion of your site out of consideration to
the family.
Thank you
in advance for your understanding and willingness to show some
compassion.
Sincerely,
[name removed]
Sharp family representative

To
Whom It May concern,
I am a native of Quincy California, and was born in 1981 when
the Keddie Murders occurred. I understand that Quincy folks, and
Keddie folks may be of a different breed, however I don't appreciate
the comments of the locals. "Typical
BORING people?" "CRUMMY little ice cream and burger
joint?" How DARE you come into our community exclaiming that
we should have Halloween parties and charge admission for people
to go into the Keddie Killer House. Innocent people were BRUTALLY
slaughtered in that house, and it should NOTbe used as a tourist
enticement. It has only been 21 years since the slayings of those
poor people, and you should be ashamed of the way you have reported
on the 'HAUNTED HOUSE.' It may be to your surprise, however, this
is an extremely tight knit community who cared deeply for the
Sharps. For those of us who have lived in Quincy, we will never
forget these murders. And of course nobody wants pictures taken
of a murder scene. If you are as morbid as you think you are,
try going into the house in the dark, and let's
see how "JUICY" your photos can get. I am extremely
appalled with your conduct and representation of the "REDNECKS"
of Keddie.
Completely flabergasted,

I
would like to know who this Grey Wolf is? Also where are you getting
some of your information? You need to respect the family and the
owners of Keddie Resort. No wonder nobody wants to buy the place
when things like this come out. I do understand the right to free
speech, but have a little respect.

Ah,
well... I can't please all the people any of the time!
