YannaHay has a film recommendation for us:

Perfume – The Story of a Murderer (2007)

“I came across this movie by accident, but really enjoyed it. Just thought to share.”

Product Description
Based on the bestselling novel, “Perfume” is a story of an obsession so overwhelming that it leads to murder. In 18th-century France lived Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Ben Whishaw), who was born with a phenomenal sense of smell. But as his gift becomes an obsession, he strives to create the most intoxicating perfume in the world by murdering young women to capture their essence.

Excellent movie, made well. European and more real like then Hollywood over the top.

After watching serveral times I am looking forward to reading the book.

    I highly recommend.

I was actually really disappointed by this movie. It’s so over the top as to become completely ridiculous by the second half-hour. The storytelling was incredibly ham-handed, and the acting is sub-par. I kind of get the feeling the director dropped the ball in not trying to reel in Alan Rickman’s apparently natural sense for high drama—he has a BILLOWING CAPE, for Christ’s sake! However, if you go into the movie without high expectations, it’s hilarious. It also made me curious about whether or not the perfume-making techniques shown in the film are accurate; if so, then interesting. Based on the premise, I might still like to read the book.
