Serial Killer Central
Karen told me she “saw this site and thought of you,” which is so unbearably sweet, I simply cannot find the words to express my shock. What I can do is tell you that Serial Killer Central is home to a nice, comprehensive serial killer community. Which doesn’t mean you have to be a serial killer to post here… though it doesn’t hurt.
Incidentally, some of you… er, maybe one of you?… were complaining about my having taken down my Dark & Gruesome Links page, so just for you I have tidied it up by removing all the dead links and I’ve reinstated it. I’ve also put a new splash page on The Asylum Eclectica featuring a photograph I took last September in the abandoned Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. Comments/Concerns/Dismay are all appreciated.
Oh, and I added a Donations link to the splash page too. Not that I ever expect donations, but in these troubling economic times, they certainly do lessen the load of running the site. Thank you for anything you can offer from your coffers.
I know this site. The factual information is very good, but I didn’t like the comments section/message boards. A lot of seriously messed up people on there, and not in a good way. I haven’t been on it in over a year, I think. During hte brief time I was on there, a longtime poster was revealed to be a woman who was 1. arrested for molesting small girls 2. taking porno pictures of same 3. was a groupie of a serial killer on death row in Alabama (Daniel Siebert, if you’re interested; look him up. One of the nastiest.) adn 4. had sent photos of her own little daughter to Siebert in prison.
There was a newspaper article to back up the first two items. I don’t know for absolute sure about the other two, but others who’d been on the site longer than me apparently knew them to be true.
So, just a word to the wise if you do go to that site.
The above comment is true, but don’t use it as a template to judge the vast majority of members by at SKC. Most of the regulars there are in their 30′s, and far from what you’d call killer groupies or posers.
Most are interested in the psychological aspects of serial murder and the procedures of the resulting investigations into their crimes. You also have murderabilia collectors, authors, victim advocates, and people from all walks of life who frequent the site. Of course there are some… odd characters that come around, but odd in the eccentric sense by and large, and rarely ever set off any kind of genuine alarms.
That’s because SKC isn’t a very hospitable place for people who want to pull the “SBA” (scary boogieman act) and try to intimidate people. We generally give those types the cold shoulder and they usually decide SKC isn’t their kind of place pretty quick.
The member who was mentioned above was run off the board by members when her crimes came to light and subsequently had all of her posts and comments removed by staff. SKC was disgusted with her and washed its hands of the member immediately.
So don’t worry about it, SKC isn’t a freakshow, it’s a great site for information on and discussion about serial murder and various other crime topics. Check it out and decide for yourself.
Brandon, you are 100% correct. We don’t like freakshows and we don’t like “tryhards”. Most of all we don’t like kiddie fiddlers.
The on topic SKC message board is decent. The off topic one is over run with overweight, pathetic excuses for human beings. Don’t go unless you enjoy being degraded, and having every bit of information anyone can dig up on you posted for all members to see. There’s a huge bandwagon mentality on the off topic side, and there’s really no room for new people – unless you have mastered your brown-nosing skills. There’s a few good people in the mix, but their voices are typically over powered, and over looked.
