Check out the amazing photography of Arnold Odermatt, a Swiss police photographer who turns car crashes into incredible works of art. This is a trailer for a documentary entitled Crash Course: The Accidental Art of Arnold Odermatt. I haven’t been able to find any information about the movie though – I guess it must not be out yet, even though this trailer is a couple years old. (Love the song too - Bowie’s “Warszawa”.)

Wait til you see the REST of me!
Those of you who adore disturbing dolls – and I think that’s probably all of you, if I’m not mistaken – might find these strange creations by a Russian dollmaker enthralling. (The dolls do feature some ‘unmentionables’ so it’s definitely NSFW!)

I’m generally not a huge fan of Japanese art, but Kaibo Zonshinzu could convert me!

Fascinating artwork by The Chapman Brothers. I love “If Hitler Had Been A Hippy How Happy Would We Be” (under Exhibitions) which depicts all sorts of horrible yet imaginative tortures via dioramas laid out in the shape of a swastika. Provocative, to say the least.

“Travis Louie’s paintings come from the tiny little drawings and many writings in his journals. He’s created his own imaginary world that is grounded in Victorian and Edwardian times. It is inhabited by human oddities, mythical beings, and otherworldly characters who appear to have had their formal portraits taken to mark their existence and place in society.”
They are marvelous. I wish I had this talent! Have a look for yourself…

Here are some absolutely beautiful (and rather unsettling) 19th century Japanese ghost scrolls. I’m not normally a huge fan of Japanese scrolls, but I’d love to have THESE in my house!

Shain Erin’s morbid art dolls are absolutely beautiful! I wish I could have some for my collection. Maybe one day…

How awesome is this ivory carving of a “Tooth Worm”?

Paul Komoda is an amazing artist who previously sculpted a magnificent bust of John “The Elephant Man” Merrick. Now he’s started a “Human Pathology” series and his first entry is the wonderfully grim “Tertiary Syphilis” which is based on an infamous photograph of an actual syphilis victim.

The wonderful Coilhouse has all the details here.

“Peur(s) Du Noir” is a 2007 French film about fear that consists of several black and white animations done by noted comic book creators and graphic designers. SwtP sent me a link to an excellent excerpt by Richard McGuire from the film. Good stuff!
