February 28th, 2010

How’s this for a nice vase? Well, okay, not exactly a nice vase, but an interesting one, anyway…

Serial Killer Trivia Game

January 23rd, 2010

Here’s a marvelous morbid trinket: The Serial Killer Trivia Board Game!

“Have you ever wanted to kill someone? Now you can and be a winner! From Seattle, the motherland of serial killers, Culture Heroes, Inc. brings you a fun family-style board game. The goal is to claim five victims before the other serial killers in town beat you to the guts (and glory)! Break into houses and pick a scenario card to reveal your murderous fate.”

Sounds like my kind of game! It’s a bit on the spendy side ($49.95), but the illustration looks marvelous. I will have to pick this up one of these days…

Morbid Holiday Trinkets?

December 27th, 2009

So, did anyone get any delightfully morbid trinkets for Whatevermas this year? Since the fair Abigail and I decided against buying gifts for one another, I didn’t get my usual quota of demented delights, but we did go shopping at one of my favorite t-shirt shops (Chicago’s own Threadless) and picked up a few rather dark creations I thought I’d share:

Memento Mori - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

The Food Chain - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

Stick Figures In Peril - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

The Horde - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

Doc Franklin's Miracle Tonic - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

Morbid Trinket Du Jour!

December 24th, 2009

Purevile is an Etsy shop that sells interesting necklaces made with various found items (keys, bones, doll parts, etc). They are nice… but what’s REALLY interesting about it to me are the manner in which the items are displayed. They are photographed in front of vintage birth defect photographs and the like, with distinctively grim descriptions like this:

“…A Long hallway slowly fills with water….Thousands of thorny vines line the walls….a small childs cries become louder and more muffled….You look down at your reflection….and you cannot believe your eyes…..”

How can you resist? Go, take a gander:

Okay, now HERE is the perfect jewelry for the person who stops to admire roadkill in your life: Loved To Death. They make lovely broaches out of prairie dog paws, parrot head necklaces, bat wing and skull necklaces, human tooth pendants, and the like. And they are really quite lovely too! (And to my relief, they guarantee that no animal was killed for their work.)

Morbid Trinket Du Jour!

December 8th, 2009

I’ve shared the site Custom Creature Taxidermy Arts before, but it’s so crazy that it deserves to be revisited frequently. Sarina Brewer is an artist and carcasses are her medium… and the results range from frightful to delightful, with all variations in between. I would like to personally remind everyone that Christmas is a time for giving, and I would like to receive nothing more than my very own flying monkey. Thank you.

Headless Historicals are the perfect gift for the historically-minded morbid doll lover in your life. I am personally quite fond of Anne Boleyn, though she’s a bit out of my price range.
